A New House on the Delaware River
Point Pleasant, PA
This new house on the Delaware, with its linear open plan, large glass openings, and outdoor decks and balconies, maximizes the spectacular views of the river. Cathedral ceilings and connected open rooms create a feeling of interior spaciousness. The house has a strong design presence, as viewed from the river, and has received loud praises from passing Kayakers.
The original house on this property was completely destroyed by flood waters from the Delaware River. The owners received funding from FEMA to build a new home on the same site, with the requirement that the main floor be well above the flood plain. The successful collaboration between the architects and engineers produced this design of a house supported by round concrete piers. Vents on the ground floor open automatically to release the pressure of rising water currents.
